Not a travel brochure. A local in your pocket.

Visit Bequia shows you the island the way islanders live it — the beach bars worth the boat ride, the lookouts nobody posts about, the festivals that turn the whole harbor into a party.

Days here write themselves

A few of the ways Bequia gets under your skin — and keeps you coming back.

Sailboat gliding across turquoise water off Bequia
On the water

Sail Admiralty Bay

The Caribbean's favorite anchorage. Charter a day sail, hop to the Tobago Cays, or just watch the yachts drift in from a harbor-side bar.

Slow days

Beach-hop the coast

Princess Margaret, Lower Bay, Industry Bay — each with its own mood. Pick one per day and let the island set the pace.

Island life

Port Elizabeth evenings

Waterfront bars, fresh-caught dinners, and live music drifting over the harbor. This is where the island comes to exhale.

Every Easter

Bequia Easter Regatta

The island's legendary sailing weekend — the harbor fills with boats and the whole town turns out.

Annual

Bequia Music Fest

Jazz, soul, and Caribbean rhythms under the stars. The island's biggest nights of the year.

Field notes

Things I'd tell a friend landing tomorrow

Princess Margaret before 10am — you'll have the whole beach to yourself.

— trust me on this one

Ask a local where they get roti. Then go there. Thank me later.

— don't skip this

Sunset at Lower Bay. Every single day you're here. Non-negotiable.

— you'll see why
Eat & drink

Come hungry. Leave planning your return.

Fresh-caught seafood, beach bars with your toes in the sand, and rum punch worth writing home about.

Waterfront dining

Port Elizabeth's harbor front is the island's dinner table — open-air restaurants serving the day's catch with the yachts bobbing a few feet away. Dress code: barefoot optional.

Beach bars

Lower Bay and Princess Margaret do lazy afternoons properly: cold drinks, grilled lunch, and a hammock with your name on it. Order the rum punch. Trust the process.

Local flavor

Family-run kitchens serve roti, fried fish, and island stews that never make the brochures. Ask a local where they eat — then go there.

Stay

Sleep where the view does the talking

From harbor-side guesthouses to hillside villas — pick your base camp.

Port Elizabeth

In the middle of everything — walk to dinner, the ferry dock, and the morning coffee run. Best for first-timers who want the island at their doorstep.

Lower Bay & the beaches

Fall asleep to the surf. Beachfront guesthouses and small resorts put the sand seconds from your door.

Hillside villas

Private villas above Admiralty Bay with infinity views over the anchorage. The splurge — and worth every penny at sunset.

Beaches

Pick your stretch of sand

Bequia's beaches each have a personality. Here's how to choose.

Princess Margaret

the classic

The postcard. Calm, swimmable, lined with palms — a short walk or water-taxi ride from Port Elizabeth. Go before 10am and it's yours alone.

Best for: swimmingGet there: walk / water taxi

Lower Bay

sunset hq

The island's living room. Beach bars, grilled lunches, hammocks, and the sunset everyone photographs. Lively by day, golden by evening.

Best for: long afternoonsGet there: walk / taxi

The wild east

adventure

Bequia's Atlantic side is wilder — windswept bays, crashing surf, barely a soul around. Not for swimming, perfect for feeling small in a good way.

Best for: exploringGet there: taxi / hike
Getting around

Small island, easy moves

Water taxis

The fun way. Hop between Port Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, and Lower Bay across Admiralty Bay — a few minutes, a few dollars, unbeatable views.

Walking

The island is seven square miles. Port Elizabeth to Lower Bay is a stroll; bring sandals you don't mind dusting off.

Taxis

Everywhere, affordable, and the drivers double as tour guides. Agree the fare before you go.

Rentals

Cars and open-air buggies for the far corners. Remember: they drive on the left.

Good to know

Before you go

Money

Eastern Caribbean dollars (EC$). US dollars are widely accepted; cards work in most restaurants and hotels.

Language

English, with island warmth. You'll pick up the rhythm by day two.

When to come

December to April is prime — dry, breezy, perfect. Summer is quieter, warmer, and a bargain.

Pack

Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat, and precisely one "nice" outfit. The island handles the rest.

Itineraries

Three perfect days

A starter rhythm — then make it yours.

day one

Beach day, done right

Morning swim at Princess Margaret before the crowds. Lunch with your feet in the sand at Lower Bay. Sunset from the same spot — you won't want to leave.

day two

On the water

Day sail out of Admiralty Bay — snorkel stops, a beach only reachable by boat, lunch on board. Back in time for harbor-front dinner in Port Elizabeth.

day three

Island time

Slow morning, then explore: the east coast's wild bays, a hillside lookout, and an evening bar-hopping the waterfront as the yachts light up.

Getting here is half the adventure

Bequia is gloriously unhurried to reach — and that's the point. No crowds, no cruise-ship rush. Just the slow, beautiful way in.

Once you arrive, everything runs on island time. You'll get used to it by sunset.

1

Fly to St. Vincent

Land at Argyle International Airport (SVD), with connections through Barbados, Miami, and beyond.

2

Ferry to Bequia

An easy, scenic hour across the water to Port Elizabeth. Ferries run throughout the day.

3

Exhale

Check in, find a beach bar, and let the island take it from here.
